Who we are
EC4RURAL is a LIFE-2022-CET-ENERCOM project whose central idea is to alter the local relations paradigm by uplifting Energy Communities in rural municipalities across Europe. Despite abundant resources, rural areas face significant challenges such as population decline, limited access to basic amenities, and reduced employment opportunities. Such difficulties often result in energy poverty among local inhabitants due to exorbitant energy tariffs. EC4RURAL promotes to enhance relationships between regional and local authorities and Local Action Groups, to contribute to the Clean Energy Transition (CET) in Europe, and ensure all stakeholders are included. Citizens and local actors will be encouraged to participate in or benefit from CET processes led by Rural Energy Communities (REC), utilizing renewable energy production and the sale of surplus energy.
EC4RURAL action is sought to support changes in consumer and business behaviour to encourage public-private dialogue and investments, which cannot be achieved at the individual level. This aligns with the European Green Deal. Additionally, EC4RURAL will aid rural development in the new Common Agricultural Policy, European Rural Pact, and Territorial Cohesion Policy.
This approach will be implemented through two pilot projects in Estonia and Galicia, involving 34 case studies in different rural communities. The primary goal is to establish a precedent and inspire replication not only within the participating regions but also across Europe via our array of external associates and partners, utilizing communication, dissemination, and exploitation activities.
