On 9th October, the inaugural seminar of the EC4RURAL project took place in Estonia, marking the start of cooperation between 12 Estonian municipalities, 22 rural Galician municipalities and ten organisations. The project, entitled Encouraging local participation in the clean energy transition in rural areas through Energy Communities, aims to promote the transition to clean energy in rural areas of Europe.

The consortium formed for the project has a solid experience and the application received a high score in the European Union’s LIFE programme. This initiative, which will be developed over four years and is 95% funded with a budget of 1.6 million euros, will promote renewable energy communities to reduce energy poverty, energy independence and improve the quality of life in rural areas. Twelve pilot projects will be implemented in Estonia, which will serve as examples for other Member States.
