On Friday 7th June, EC4RURAL was present at the 59th edition of the Vegadeo Fair, as one of the projects currently being developed in this area to the north of Lugo. Muras, Ourol and O Valadouro are three of the 22 municipalities assigned to EC4RURAL to form rural energy communities.

In the case of EC4RURAL, the technician Almudena Fiunte presented (online) the challenges faced by rural areas and how Rural Energy Communities can be a useful tool to face challenges such as energy transition or depopulation. She also gave an overview of the legal protection, the actors and the operational system.

In addition to EC4RURAL, other projects developed in the territory were also presented during this session, such as CLIMALAT, EO Alimenta Food Strategy, Alimenta Territorios and Red de Pueblos Acogedores.

EC4RURAL’s participation in this type of local meeting allows the consortium to continue to disseminate the project’s objectives and to have direct contact with the actors of the territory or the neighbourhood, who did not have the opportunity to attend the first information meetings held in each municipality.

What is EC4RURAL?

Through the European project EC4RURAL a new paradigm shift will be implemented through 2 pilots, one in Estonia and one in Galicia. The objective for 2027 will be the establishment of 34 rural energy communities producing electricity through photovoltaic panels on the roofs of public buildings.

22 municipalities are participating in #PilotoGalicia: Mazaricos, Moeche, Ordes, Outes, Tordoia, Vedra, Vilasantar (A Coruña); Avión, Entrimo, Muíños (Ourense), Becerreá, Monterroso, Muras, Ourol, Palas de Rei, A Pobra do Brollón, Sober, O Valadouro (Lugo); O Rosal, Salvaterra de Miño, Silleda and Tomiño (Pontevedra).

EC4RURAL is co-financed by the LIFE Programme of the European Union (€1.6M) and will be implemented during the period 2023-2027 in several phases.
